Mark has dedicated the past several years to working as a Privacy Officer in a state agency, where he has gained experience in records management and GRAMA. His role as a Certified Information Privacy Manager has involved developing and implementing comprehensive privacy programs to ensure data protection compliance. Mark’s background in computer science, coupled with his Security+ certification, has equipped him with a strong foundation in privacy and cybersecurity principles.

Logan Nelson is a Data Privacy Analyst at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. With 8 years of experience in the privacy sector, he’s spent the last six years specializing in data inventory and Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs). His background also includes valuable experience in law enforcement and the financial industry.

Logan holds a bachelor’s degree from BYU-Idaho and is certified with the IAPP CIPM (Certified Information Privacy Manager). Outside of work, he loves spending time outdoors with his family, exploring nature and creating lasting memories.

Jodi Shegrud is an experienced privacy professional with a strong background in privacy compliance, legal frameworks, and data governance. Currently serving as the Director of Privacy for the Utah Department of Government Operations, she leads privacy initiatives to ensure compliance with privacy laws across state government operations, integrating these efforts with records management best practices. Prior to this, Jodi worked in the private sector, where she implemented comprehensive compliance programs to ensure alignment with a range of privacy laws, while also managing compliance with ISO, NIST, and HITRUST frameworks. Jodi holds a master’s degree in legal studies (M.L.S.) with a concentration in privacy law and cybersecurity. She is also a Certified Paralegal through the National Association of Legal Assistants and a Certified Information Privacy Professional in U.S. privacy law through IAPP.

Jodi is dedicated to fostering accountability and data protection in both public and private sectors, ensuring ethical data handling and regulatory compliance.

Howard Loos, CRM, IGP, CIPP/US/E has 30 years of experience in the field of Records and Information Management (RIM). During most of those years, Howard worked as a consultant in the Financial, Manufacturing, Oil & Gas and Technology industries, as well as Education and Government. His specialties include strategy development, RIM program development, organizational governance, requirements gathering and software implementation. More recently, Howard has lead RIM & Privacy Program teams at BYU. Howard attended the University of North Dakota, where he received his bachelor’s degree, majoring in both Business Administration and Records and Information Management. He later received an MBA from the same university. Howard is currently serving as the Chief Privacy Officer and Director of Records and Information Management at Brigham Young University.

David Fleming is Vice President and Corporate Records Program Manager for Zions Bancorporation and has over 40 years of experience in operations management, project management, records management, and information governance. In the role of Corporate Records Program Manager, David works closely with executive and business unit management, Data Governance, Legal, IT, and Risk Management to develop information management and legal discovery strategy and processes for the corporation.

David is an active member of the ARMA Utah-Salt Lake Chapter and has served in various ARMA leadership roles at the chapter and region levels including Chapter President and Pacific Region Director. He has also previously served in volunteer leadership roles for the American Bankers Association (ABA) Records Management Working Group and as a member of the Utah State Records Committee from 2011 to 2019 (Chair 2017-2019). David holds both the Certified Records Manager (CRM) and Certified Information Governance Professional (IGP) designations.

Heidi Steed is currently the Local Government Records Specialist at the Utah Division of Archives, a role she has occupied since 2017. In this role Heidi brings the services of the State Archives to Utah’s local governments, consulting about records management and preservation best practices. Heidi has a BA in political science and MA in public administration from the University of Utah. Heidi, along with her bowling team, is also a two time winner of the Valley Lanes Bowling League championship.

Mike began his career in archives working as an Archives Assistant for the Japanese American Service in Chicago. In 2009, Mike started working for the Archdiocese of New Orleans, where he developed his interest in records and information management by first serving as a processing archivist/records analyst and later as an electronic records content manager. After eleven years with the Archdiocese of New Orleans, in July 2020, the
Diocese of Salt Lake City hired Mike as their Director of Archives and Records.

Mike earned his undergraduate degree in history from the Catholic University of America, Washington, DC, two graduate degrees – one in history and the second in theology, both from Loyola University, Chicago as well as a post baccalaureate certificate in information systems and technology from Tulane University.

Mike is also a Certificated Archivist and Certificated Records Analyst. When not thinking about archives and records, Mike enjoys reading books on American religious history and Catholic theology, hiking, watching classic Doctor Who, and learning more about Utah.
