January 2025 – Privacy Month

Happy New Year! We’re getting this year started off with Privacy Month! Howard Loos will be discussing privacy and how it interacts with records management, key knowledge to have, and case studies from BYU’s privacy program.

Who is Howard Loos?  Howard Loos, CRM, IGP, CIPP/US/E has 30 years of experience building and maintaining RIM programs, and has been serving as a Chief Privacy Officer (CPO) at BYU, for the past 6 years, addressing US and Global privacy and data retention laws & regulations. Visit his LinkedIn!

What are we talking about exactly? It’s 2025 and January is Privacy Month! Privacy and now AI seem to be the biggest buzzwords out there. What should records managers know about privacy? How can records managers help the privacy effort and how can privacy help the cause of records management? During this meeting, we will review a brief history of US and international privacy laws, what they mean for records managers, and learn what BYU is doing about it.
