Church History Records Clean-up Day!
Come learn from Russ Porter how the records management team assisted employees to identify records that should be kept, and those that no longer have value and should be destroyed. A tour of the Church’s Records Center will follow.
Russell Porter is a Senor Records Manager for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He grew up in Davis County, served a two-year mission to Japan, and attended Weber State University.
He started working in his current position in 2022. He works with multiple departments and areas of the Church. He assists them with retention and disposition of each department’s records. He also assists the departments with maintaining their own records management plan. Prior to working for the Church, Russ worked in the Records Management Industry for 25 years at a software company called BMI Associates located in Kaysville, Utah. The nature of the work there varied, and Russ had the opportunity to work with a variety of industries, assisting them with their records management needs. His work entailed people management, project and product management, system design, configuration, implementation, records retention and classifications, training, and support.
Russ has been married for 33 years and has 4 children, 2 sons-in-law, and one granddaughter. He enjoys watching sports, especially high school and college wrestling, and playing pickleball with his family and friends.
Meeting will be held at the LDS Church History Library downtown (15 E North Temple St, Salt Lake City, UT 84150, see map), with parking at the LDS Conference Center. Registrants will be emailed information on parking and security ahead of time. Please allow extra time to get through security at the Church History Library.
