February 2021 – Network Drives with Kendra Yates

For our February meeting we are excited to hear from our very own Kendra Yates. She will be presenting, Getting the Skeletons Out of the Closet (and Into the Cloud): A Network Drive Cleanup Case Study by Kendra Yates. We will discuss ways to clean out old network drives and sifting through what you do and don’t need to be retaining, as well as practical ways to bring your company along with you.

Come learn from real-life examples of network drive cleanup as we push forward into February with ARMA.

Who is Kendra Yates? Kendra Yates is the Chief Records Officer for Utah and the administrator of the Records and Information Management Section at the Utah Division of Archives and Records Services (State Archives). After a thirteen-year hiatus spent raising a family, Kendra completed a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Utah and a Masters of Library Science from Clarion University of Pennsylvania. She loves learning, problem-solving, and working with people, and appreciates the opportunity to do all three at the State Archives.

January 2021 – Threat Intelligence with Hanna Bennett

For our January meeting we are excited to have Hanna Bennett with us to discuss threat intelligence. She will discuss several facets of threat intelligence including, ransomware and other trends in security breaches, vulnerabilities that are commonly exploited by hackers, the benefits of information sharing, and other resources.

Come learn some practical ways we can secure both ourselves and our companies as we ring in this new year at ARMA.

Who is Hanna Bennett? Hanna is the Senior Intelligence Analyst for the Utah Statewide Information & Analysis Center (SIAC) with the Department of Public Safety (DPS). The SIAC is one of 80 fusion centers across the nation, and is a focal point for the receipt, analysis, gathering and sharing of threat-related information between State, Local, Tribal and Territorial (SLTT), federal and private sector partners.

December 2020 – ARMA Christmas Social

For our 2020 Christmas Social we will be joining the ARMA Pacific Region’s Spirit Lifting Virtual Wine Tasting. We will be learning about the history and practice of recordkeeping in the wine industry. There will be an optional virtual wine tasting (including food pairings) after the presentation. Please click on the following link for more information about the Olivia Brion Winery. As you cannot ship wine to Utah, if you would like to participate in the wine tasting you will have to purchase your own wine at the local liquor store. The following wines are similar to the ones that will be used in the wine tasting are: 2016 Tempranillo, 2019 “Taquine” White (Viognier/Gewurtztraminer/Chardonnay) Blend, and a 2016 Estate Pinot Noir. The food pairings for the wines are as follows Tempranillo – Steak/Potato Chips, Viognier Blend – Chicken/Pork Chop/Salmon, and Pinot Noir – Sea Food/Almonds.

November 2020 – David Fleming

We are excited to have our very own, David Fleming, present for our November Chapter meeting! He will be talking about what part RIM plays in the field of IG and why RIM is not just a name change for IG.

Come with questions and ready to learn from David’s many years of experience!

Who is David Fleming? David is an information governance and records management professional with over 30 years of achievement at large commercial banking entities. His experience is mainly focused in the areas of records and information management / program development and technology / process improvement project management. He was Chapter President of our Chapter for the 2009/2010 year.

New ARMA Utah Site and Logo Completed

We are pleased to announce the completion of our new website. My website committee has spent countless hours perfecting and polishing the website so that it is useful and practical while also being aesthetically pleasing. You may also have noticed that in addition to a new look for our website, we also have a new look for our old logo! This new logo was redrawn by me and comes in both white and black. I am so grateful for all of the work my committee put in and for the support of the ARMA Utah Chapter Board of Directors.

October 2020 – Cybersecurity with Andrew Ysasi

For our October meeting we welcome Andrew Ysasi back to speak to our chapter about cybersecurity and information governance. He will be speaking specifically about the challenges cybersecurity professionals face every day and how we as IG professionals can be an ally and a resource to them as they defend our organization from cyberattacks.

Come learn about some of their challenges, joint issues and specific questions to ask cybersecurity professionals.

Who is Andrew Ysasi? Andrew is a subject matter expert, writer, sought after speaker, and past university instructor. As Vice President of Advocacy at Vital Records Control, he is tasked with mentoring, educating, volunteering, and advocating for all matters related to records management and information governance (IG).

We’re kicking off our year with an online presentation from Utah’s Open Data Coordinator, Drew Mingl! Take the opportunity to reconnect with colleagues (virtually– no masks required!), and learn more about data. We may not see you in person, but we hope to see your faces!

Who is Drew Mingl? He is the State Data Coordinator, architect & content manager for Utah’s Open Data portal & Spending.Utah.gov ($190 billion in State of Utah spending). He works with all State agencies, counties, cities, special service districts, school districts and higher ed institutions to identify publicly available open data to be included in Utah’s Open Data portal. Responsible for Utah’s data inventory/catalog.

2020 Summer Social

The June 2020 Summer Social featured the swearing in of new officers for the 2020-2021 year by Howard Loos and the awarding of Chapter Business Partner of the Year and Chapter Member of the Year.

June 18, 2020: Closing Social

Come to socialize while staying compliant with recommended health guidelines. We’ll also have a few items of chapter business to take care of, including swearing in our newly elected chapter officers.

Please register below by Monday, June 15th, and bring a mask to wear for circumstances when social distancing isn’t possible. We look forward to gathering in less restrictive circumstances in the fall.
